Kipling Country-Pench

Nestled in the southern Satpuda hills, Pench National Park, named after the meandering Pench River, shares its stage with Kanha as the birthplace of Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book. The terrain features small hills and teak mixed forests, creating a haven for wildlife—from herds of Gaur to a bustling community of chital and sambar. The landscape, a scenic blend of open canopies, mixed forests, and grassy patches, undulates in a rhythmic dance from moist valleys to dry deciduous forests. Pench boasts the highest concentration of grass eaters, surpassing even Kanha's lush biodiversity. A symphony which extends to the realm of predators, where tigers, leopards, wild dogs, and jackals command the stage. Amidst this drama, rare characters emerge—the elusive nilgai, wild boar, sloth bear, chousingha, chinkara, munjtac, palm civet, small Indian civet, jungle cat, hyena, and porcupine—all weaving tales in the vibrant fabric of Pench's wilderness.
